Griffiths stars in away win

In only their second game this year, Betws travelled to high-flying Llandeilo hoping to get their season back on track. Playing with the wind behind them,Betws scored two early penalties from the boot of outside-half Daniel Griffiths before Llandeilo replied with a penalty of their own. Both sides were looking to play an expansive game and the first try came from good play by the Betws pack before a chip over the top that several Llandeilo players failed to clear trickled over the line and was dabbed down by the Betws No 10 Griffiths, who went on to convert his own try. Griffiths then kicked another penalty for what the supporters of both teams thought would be a 16-3 lead for Betws at half-time. But, the referee had other ideas and a subsequent yellow card for Betws allowed Llandeilo to score in the 51st minute of the 1st half.

The second half saw Llandeilo using the wind, now in their favour, to embark on a concerted attack on the Betws line but a fantastic defensive show by the visitors kept them out. Betws then increased their lead when wing Ashley Evans completely skinned his opposing number, and five phases later second-row Hedd Jones fed full-back Dan Madge who scored near the posts with Griffiths adding the conversion. Llandeilo continued to press and scored a deserved try in the 85th minute which was brilliantly converted from the touchline. At this stage, both sets of supporters started to head for the bar thinking the game was over, but the veteran referee insisted that there were a further two minutes to play. Again Llandeilo pressed forward but the Betws defensive effort kept them at bay and the visitors held out for a well-deserved away win.
